When I saw the trailer for Bright, I didn’t immediately compare the two but if you’ll recall, there was a movie and television show about aliens and humans co-existing.  That show was called Alien Nation.  Remember?  The movie came out in 1988 and the television show lasted a whopping one season from 1989-1990.  However, when you think about where movies are now when it comes to aliens and humans, Alien Nation was way ahead of its time.   I simply think people weren’t ready for it yet.

We’re talking 30 years since that movie and show were made.  If there were ever time for a reboot, now is the time.  And to be honest, I hate the whole reboot thing.  But it’s one thing if a reboot is done out of necessity or annoyingly selfish reasons like trying to make money.  It’s another if a reboot is done with a project that simply didn’t have enough wheels because of the time era it was produced in.

I think that Alien Nation is a perfect movie or show to be released today.  Don’t use the same actors.  Don’t use the same alien looks.  But make it a brand new movie for a brand new generation.  When you think about it, the last movie that contained aliens and humans co-existing was District 9, and that movie rocked.
