Hardcore fans of The 100, Game of Thrones, Mr. Robot, and many more popular television shows will all be represented at this year’s MTV Fandom Awards. The award show honors the fans whose “tenacious excitement pushes movies, TV, music, theater and video games from subculture to mainstream worldwide success.”
Categories for the MTV Fandom Awards include “Best New Fandom of the Year,” which features freshman TV series like Jessica Jones and Mr. Robot competing against a juggernaut like Hamilton, and “Best Revival Fandom of the Year,” which has the Gilmore Girls revival, Fuller House, and more vying for the top prize. There’s also “Best Freak Out of the Year,” which is the category that includes both The 100 and Game of Thrones; The 100 is nominated for Lexa’s death, while Game of Thrones snagged a spot for Jon Snow’s resurrection.
Additionally, two more categories that are not listed below will have their nominees announced next month. For “Fandom of the Year,” 32 nominees will go head-to-head across multiple platforms in a special social tournament spanning movies, TV dramas, TV comedies and, for the first time ever, video games. Also, the nominees for “Ship of the Year” will be voted on exclusively on Tumblr. Both sets of nominees will be announced on Friday, July 8.
Voting for the awards begins today at fandomawards.mtv.com and will continue until Wednesday, July 20. The show will air on Sunday, July 24, at 8 p.m. EST on MTV.
